Interests: Medieval Mediterranean; Crusades; Eastern Christian Churches; East-West relations; inter-faith relations in the Latin East; Byzantine history

Edith Lagarde joined Notre Dame as a doctoral student in fall 2020. While she enjoys studying most areas of medieval history, her research focuses primarily on the religious history of the Latin East. In particular, she is interested in papal communications with the Eastern Christian Churches in the Latin East and surrounding areas throughout the twelfth- and thirteenth-centuries, as well East-West relations more broadly. Her interest also extends to the intellectual and cultural history of the same region, particularly as it regards dialogue and exchange between the Christian and Islamic communities.
