Human expansion has depended on the massive mobilization of animal resources, at the same time that it imperils global biodiversity on a scale comparable to past geological catastrophes. The so-called Sixth Extinction, which is arguably underway, is a crucial facet of human planetary dominance and has deep historical roots. This talk will explore what historians can add to ongoing efforts to understand, measure, and categorize human-driven changes in biodiversity.
