David Carlson

David studies late colonial North America, the early United States, slavery, and the slave trade, emphasizing their broader Atlantic and continental contexts. His dissertation project explains the transition from the transatlantic to the transcontinental slave trade in the United States. He is particularly interested in the way the American and other Atlantic revolutions interacted with and influenced transformations of U.S. and Atlantic slavery.
