Nick Hernández

Nickolas (Nick) Hernandez is a current Ph.D. student in History with a focus on U.S. politics and culture. Broadly, his research examines the political development of various Latin American immigrant groups in the Midwest during the global Cold War. He focuses on the inclusion and exclusion of Latin Americans within the United State’s two party political system. His research centers around questions of intergenerationalism, socioeconomic class, and racial structures transplanted from Latin America to the United States. Additionally, he is interested in how the integration of Latin Americans into U.S. mainstream politics impacted political, cultural, and social identities in the United States.

 

Nick is a recipient of the College of Arts and Letters Dean’s Fellowship, a Kellogg Institute Doctoral Student Affiliate, and an Institute for Latino Studies Graduate Student Affiliate. He also serves as the Co-Coordinator for the ILS Graduate Working Group. Before attending Notre Dame, Nick received his B.A. in American Studies from Baylor University, where he was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar.
