Doğuş Bayazit

Biography

Doğuş Bayazıt is a graduate student at the University of Notre Dame studying the political history of the late medieval Islamic and Mediterranean worlds. His research focuses on state formation during the post-Mongol period, with particular attention to central and eastern Anatolia. He currently works on the Eretnaid polity and their successors during the fourteenth and early fifteenth centuries. His other interests include pastoral nomadic communities, medieval urban elites, the interactions between the two, and their relations with the rulers of the era. During his pursuit of his previous degrees, Doğuş also studied the medieval Mediterranean slave trade, as well as heterodox religious movements within medieval Islam and the Byzantine world.

Doğuş is deeply committed to public history and worked on historical documentary productions before pursuing his doctoral studies. A native of Istanbul, Turkey, he earned his BA in History from Boğaziçi University and an MLitt in Iranian Studies from the University of St Andrews.
