James Breen is a cultural and intellectual U.S. historian. Both his research and teaching interests focus on U.S. religion, capitalism, and nativism in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His current dissertation project explores how anti-Catholicism shaped the ways in which many Americans thought about the economic turmoil, volatility, and inequality that defined the Gilded Age. Breen holds a Master of Arts from The University of Chicago Divinity School and a Bachelor of Arts from Lawrence University.
