Courses
The history department offers approximately fifty courses each semester — forty undergraduate and ten graduate. A number of these courses are cross-listed in other departments such as American Studies, the Medieval Institute, and the undergraduate program in Science, Technology and Values.
Our courses span a wide range of periods, topics, and themes. At the undergraduate level, standard courses in American and Western European history are complemented by courses in Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The departmental strengths in religious history (European and American), in cultural and social history, and in the history of science and technology are also found in our undergraduate offerings. Graduate instruction excels in these areas as well, and in addition draws upon the formidable resources of the Medieval Institute and the program in History & Philosophy of Science.
Undergraduate majors should consult one of the departmental advisors before registration, to assure that they fulfill history department requirements. If you are a graduate student with questions about courses or requirements, you should consult your advisor or the Director of Graduate Studies.
